There is a lot about Joker 2019 film that the people in society must know how important it is psychologically for human beings for their passion to be approved by society. The latest Hollywood film has been in the public domain with a striking message for us, for society as a whole.
It beautifully displays one of the most common problems of modern human society: recognition. Almost everyone is after it, chasing it but only a few find it while the rest end up in a state of Arthur, the Joker. Let us examine some of the films’ features and have insight.
However, Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his acting a leading role, and the film for original music, in 2020. Even though Joker is not one of my 101 best films of 100 years to watch, it is certainly one of the greatest films I have watched till now.
Background
The Joker movie is about a lack of love and attention and an identity crisis. Being ignored and hated, and being underestimated for what pleases an aspiring standup comedian had turned him into someone who he did not aspire to be: a killer.
Joker 2019 reminds us that negligence and being nobody is a very extremely painful and powerful motivations toward either for better or worse. The desire to be somebody makes us who we are. Hate, ignore or bully someone for who he is or what he does and see what he is and what he is going to be.
Former Lebanese popular adult actress Miah Khalifa in her interview with Steven Sancar of BBC said that insecurity and lack of attention was the motivating force behind her breast implant which made her a queen of the adult world overnight.
But the struggle against being nobody and the constant fight to become somebody is very real in human life. People try to be recognised with the possessions and passion they cherish in their subconscious minds.
Therefore, in order to make life meaningful to the desired level through social and political approval, people can possibly do anything to attain it.
Because, nowadays, we all expect to be honoured, feared, loved, valued and recognised for what we love to do.
Over time, humanity has invented numerous ways of recognisable factors in human life in which they input a skilful endeavour of excellence as a criterion. Kill or get killed bears less meaning. Money, sports, property, look, fashion, entertainment, politics, literature and other forms of strenuous and audacious activities are taken by human beings.

Joker 2019
“My death would make more sense than my life”, frustrated writes the protagonist of the latest Hollywood film ‘Joker (2019)’. The film tells of a struggling stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man who, being the subject of bully took revenge for his social condition by killing the people who ridiculed his passion of being a joker.
His laughing condition, a medical condition when one laughs uncontrollably, of laughing hard brought him indignation. Instead of the unfavourable conditions, all he wanted was to be recognised as a stand-up comedian among friends, to mother, lover and to himself.
Arthur lived with his mentally disturbed aged mother in an apartment in a very impoverished condition. He would take very good care of his mother who is bedridden.
One day he decorated as a clown was attracting customers by displaying a sign while a few youths snatched his sign and went off. Arthur was attacked and left half dead and the sign was damaged by the youths as he chased them down.
Battered he came home and took care of his mother. The agency manager threatened him with a salary cut if he cannot return the sign. He could not convince the manager that he has not kept the sign for which the former was accusing him.
On his way back home Arthur sat behind a black child who was travelling with his mother on public transport. Compassionate, Arthur was trying to make funny faces to the child to cheer. But the mother interrupted him and accused him of bothering the child instead. Arthur burst into laughter.
One day a man from the agency gave him a gun in case he needs to protect himself from any possible danger. Though surprised, he kept the gun and went to perform in a children’s hospital carrying it with him.
However, during the acts, the gun fell from his pocket and slipped on the floor terrifying the children. As a result, regardless of his pleas, he was fired from the job as a comedian.
On the subway train, he started for home. Killed three stalkers in the subway while he was attacked by the men for his sudden loud laughter to see these men harassing a female passenger. They attacked him and threw away his belongings.
One day his mother wrote a letter asking for help from Thomas Wayne, the mayor to be of the city of Gotham. Instead of taking it to Thomas he sneaked into the letter and found out that his mother had an affair with the mayor for whom she worked previously. And Arthur found out that Thomas Wayne is his biological father.
The next day when he managed to have an entry into a comedy show in the guise of a catering boy to meet Thomas. Amid a fierce argument, Thomas revealed that Arthur was his son but was adopted as an abandoned child by his mother and kept claiming that he is not the result of their affair. Arthur burst into laughter.
Devastated he ventured to the Mental Hospital to inquire about his mother’s records. Presumably, he found that he was indeed adopted and badly abused and tortured by her boyfriend and herself.
The records contain a few new paper reports on his abuse. He burst into laughter. She was diagnosed with Delusional and Psychological Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Broken he went to the hospital where his mother was admitted due to a sudden heart problem. There he killed his mother by putting a pillow on her mouth.
Back in the apartment, he also killed his visiting friend who came to inform him that the policemen were looking for him.
One day a phone call came to inform him that Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro), the host of a popular comedy show that Arthur loved watching very much, that out of public demand his presence is expected in the show.
People wanted to see him in the show after Murray had aired a video clip of jokes of Arthur. Nevertheless, Murray himself went to his residence to make sure that he is coming to the show. He agreed to be in the show and wished Murray to introduce him as a joker.
Arthur kissed Murray’s wife in the show. Murray told him to tell a joke. Arthur brought out his notebook of the joke and reads, Knock, knock….it the police mam…” The audience made fun of him.
He states, “it’s just, you know, Murray, it’s been rough few weeks ever since I killed those three Wall Street guys. Arthur burst into laughter and said, “My life is nothing but a comedy”.
“Do you think”, asked Murray, “killing these guys is funny”? ‘I do”, says Arthur, “and I tired of pretending that is not. Comedy is subjective, Murray. And you know what they say, “all of you, that system that knows so much, you decide what is right or wrong. The same way that you decide what’s funny or not“.

“C’mon Murray” objected Arthur, “You tell like a clown starts a movement? I killed those guys because they were awful. Everybody is awful these days, and enough to make one crazy”.
“Okay, you are crazy. That’s your defence for killing those young men?” inquired Murray.
“No’, replied Arthur, “they could not carry a tune to save their lives. Oh! Why is everybody so upset about these guys! If that was me dying on the sidewalk you would walk right over me. I pass you every day but you don’t notice me. But these guys! Because Thomas Wayne cried about them on TV?
“Do you have a problem with Thomas Wayne”? Asked Murray.
“Yes, I do. Have you seen what it’s like out there Murray? Have you ever left the studio? Everyone just yells and screams at each other. Nobody is civil anymore. Nobody thinks what it’s like to be the other guy. You think a man like Thomas Wayne ever thinks what is like to be someone like me, to be someone but themselves? They don’t. They think we will just sit there and take it like good little boys. That we won’t a werewolf, go wild.
“So mush self-pity Arthur”, interrupted Murray. “You sound like you are making excuses for killing these young men. Not everybody. And I am telling you this, ‘not everyone is awful”.
“But you are awful Murray”, said Arthur.
“Me! Said, Murray. “Yeah, how am I awful”?
“Play my video”, replied Arthur, “reviling me on the show. You just wanted to make fun of me. You are just like the rest of them”.
“Two policemen were killed, another is in critical condition. People are on the riot because of what you did”, Murray pointed.
“How about another joke, Murray? said Arthur sarcastically.
“No, we have enough of your jokes? Call the police”, said Murray
“I tell what you fucking deserve”, he shot Murray and burst into laughter nervously.
Arrested by police he was being taken by the police van while a group of anti-rich people wearing clown musk, sympathetic to Arthur attacked the police van and took him away.
The entire city of Gotham is already in full riot. Thomas Wayne was killed by one of the rioters the same day and his wife. Indeed a man who struggled for the whole to be known, recognised, celebrated and looking for identity among the people of identity became a symbol of passion among the rioters. With blood on his face draw the face of a clown.
Arthur is seen laughing in the correction centre in front of the female psychiatrist who was killed too. Joker 2019 ends with the following song. Are you suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder?
